Sanity Check: Route 83 Preliminary Recommendations

Leer en español abajo.

Using everything that we’ve learned, we have put together Preliminary Recommendations and we’re getting back out in the community to get your feedback.  Recommendations focus on future land uses, landscaping and urban design improvements, and transportation improvements.  Join us at an Open House to learn more about the recommendations and share your ideas and feedback with us.

Community Open Houses  Grab a neighbor and join us at either:

  • Wood Dale Park District on Monday, January 20th, 2020 between 6:00 – 8:00pm
  • Villa Park Library on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 between 6:00 – 8:00pm

Preliminary recommendations for the DuPage County Route 83 Land Use Plan are detailed in a memorandum (dated November 21, 2019) from the consultant team to the project Steering Committee.  The Steering Committee reviewed and commented on those recommendations at a meeting on December 13, 2019. Several refinements were suggested by the Committee. Before finalizing the recommendations, each corridor community and public from the area are being asked to also review and comment on the draft recommendations.

Unable to attend either Open House? The full memorandum, a 3-page summary and the open house boards describing preliminary recommendations, including graphics and maps, are available in the Resources tab.  Let us know if you have any questions and feel free to leave us comments relating to the recommendations!

Shared Goals Survey Open!

The Route 83 Corridor Plan is first and foremost an update to the DuPage County Land Use Plan.  However, the planning process provides the opportunity to think about larger issues and how to best care for and improve the corridor.  It also provides an opportunity to improve communication among the corridor communities and the County, with the ultimate goal of creating shared goals that help to accomplish a common vision.

Given all that the Steering Committee has learned, we took a stab at writing some Shared Goals for the Plan a little while ago. Now is the time to ensure that the goals are still representative of the community’s vision and are appropriately prioritized.

That’s where YOU come in!  Read more about the goals here, then Take the Survey!

If you have more feedback for us about the goals, leave us a comment!

NOTE: If you joined us at an Open House in May, you may have already taken this survey.

Virtual Open House

Thank you to everyone who joined us at an open house!  We know that not everyone could make it, so we are holding a special Virtual Open House as well!

How do I participate in the Virtual Open House?

We’re glad you asked!  Here’s a rundown of what we did and how you can add your 2 cents:

  1. Project Overview
  2. Share Your Ideas
    • Answer any or all of the following questions with a bit of detail to help us know what you’re describing and where it is located:
      • How is Route 83 helpful for residents and businesses?
      • Where are there opportunities for redevelopment or transportation improvements in the Route 83 area?
      • What are the issues getting around in the Route 83 area?
      • What are the issues related to new and existing homes and businesses in the area?

Daily Herald: Plan to examine the future of the Route 83 corridor

In the News…

Daily Herald | May 13th, 2019 | Robert Sanchez

“Route 83 is a significantly traveled thoroughfare,” said county board member Sam Tornatore, who serves as chairman of the county’s development committee. “I’d like to see it clean. I’d like to see it safe. And I’d like to see it ready for economic development.”

The master plan will address issues and opportunities related to land use and transportation along Route 83, officials said. It will focus on the future of unincorporated areas “but do so in a way that reflects the needs and goals of property owners and adjacent communities.”

Planning Ahoy

Planning is just getting underway! Please click here to learn more about the plan and process. News posts will be added here throughout the project.

How can you get involved?

Step 1:  Use this website! Head over to the Community Comment Corner to share feedback and ideas related to past issues, opportunities, what you’d like to see where, etc. You can upload photos to support your feedback — i.e. “this would be a great location for a pedestrian overpass because…” or “this intersection is ripe for redevelopment because…” — share with us your wants and desires — an issue is an opportunity for improvement. Share your ideas with us today!

Step 2: Register today. Click the “Follow” button via this website and enter your email to receive project updates, meeting announcements and updates automatically to your inbox.

Step 3: Attend future meetings and events! Two community workshops will be held to share the Existing Conditions Report with the public and gather input on corridor goals. The workshops will be interactive events with opportunities to share and map experiences, concerns and ideas. Dates, times and locations of community events will be posted on the homepage, news page and announced via the email “Follow” feature. See Step 2 above!

Step 4: Spread the good word. Tell your friends, neighbors and community partners about this plan — encourage them to get involved, register, and attend events. When communities come together to plan, the results are stronger, pertinent and more rewarding for all involved. Word-of-mouth marketing is so meaningful and direct. Please help us in our efforts to further outreach and feedback!
